Patiala, Oct 12 (UNI) Haryana were bundled out for a modest total of 158 in 60.2 overs on the opening day of the four-day match in Col C K Nayadu (Under-22) North Zone cricket tournament here today.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Haryana were cheaply bowled out despite Ankit Rawat's brilliant unbeaten 81. Rawat played with tremendous authority and grit.
Dhruv Singh was the other batsman who was able to withstand the penetrative Punjab bowling, though he scored only 27 runs.
For Punjab, S Kaul bowled well to capture five wickets, giving away 42 runs while S S Ladda bagged 4 for 40.
In reply, Punjab were 108 for 3 in 28 overs at close of play.
India 'A' batsman Karan Goyal was out cheaply for 18 runs but Sunny Sohal scored a fluent 69 to prop up the Punjab innings.
At stumps, Naresh was unbeaten on 10 and night watchman S S Ladda was yet to score. For Haryana, S Bhadwar took two wickets, conceding 37 runs while P Prateek got 1 for 19.
