Anushka Sharma's Bombay Velvet a flop? Abuse Virat Kohli, anyone?

By Shubham

The much talked-about Bombay Velvet featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma opened to poor reviews last Friday. Film experts even went to the extent of calling it a 'debacle'. The news rocked quite a few for the lead duo did quite a few rounds to make their work a long-lasting memory.

But films' fates are unpredictable. In this age of hyper-publicity, a flop sounds like a death knell. That is not precisely the point. The question is: How many of Anushka Sharma's fans have now decided to abuse ace cricketer Virat Kohli for the Bombay Velvet debacle?

Anushka Sharma was blamed for Virat Kohli's failure, now time to hit back at the cricketer?

In March, Kohli's Lady Love Anushka found herself at the receiving end after the former got dismissed for just 1 run off 13 balls against Australia, the eventual champions, in the semifinal of the ICC World Cup in Sydney. Abuse Kohli if Bombay Velvet has flopped

She was blamed for Kohli's debacle and not his temperament. Shocking tweets were posted abusing the 27-year-old actor who had gone to see the match from the stands. More than India's 95-run loss to the hosts, it was Anushka Sharma's presence at the Sydney Cricket Ground that had attracted more ire. [Virat, Anushka court controversy during IPL]

Why didn't the script change this time when Anushka faced a failure? Why wasn't Kohli accused of distracting her from her work that made it suffer big time?

Shocking gender bias

The gender gap in this country is shameful, isn't it? It is convenient for India's patriarchal values target the women for men's failure even if it not related. Through that, the biased power equation of our society is reconfirmed. It is shown that the support system for our males do not really matter at the end of the day. Our men are actually supermen and their support system is just an glorified extra which can also prove to be counter-productive at times.

When the case is opposite, no such equation comes into play. It is just a thankless job being done then. Even if Anushka Sharma's film was a hit, there is no element of feat in that.

Filmstars, especially women, are after all just show-pieces in this country while cricketers are real knights even if they have a limited few opponents the world over. So beware, an individual, moreover a woman, is by no means allowed to derail the concentration of a national hero who plays for a team that represents India.

Unbelievable hypocrisy, isn't it?
