Hashim Amla snatches record from Virat Kohli

Canberra, Nov 20: While India's Virat Kohli is making the headlines and earning lot of praise from the fans, South African opener Hashim Amla is quietly amassing runs and now has snatched one of Kohli's records.

Yesterday (November 19), at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, Amla compiled his 17th ODI century in a losing cause. The right-hander reached the milestone in fewest innings, bettering Kohli's mark.

Hashim Amla - 5 ODI tons in 2014

The 31-year-old scored his 17th ODI ton in 98 innings (101 matches) while the previous fastest to the mark was Kohli, from 112 innings. (Why did Kohli tweeted these? - Fans are worried)

Amla made 102 against Australia in the third ODI of the five-match series. However, South Africa went down by 73 runs, failing to chase down 330.

This was Amla's 5th 50-over international hundred in 2014, the most by a batsman. Kohli and Australia's Aaron Finch have 4 each.

Amla is on the way to take another record away from Kohli and Vivian Richards. The duo is the fastest to 5,000 ODI runs, having reached there in 114 innings.

The South African needs another 90 runs to break the record. He has 15 more innings to surpass Kohli and Richards.
