Australia pacer Pat Cummins joined a unique list with a treble during the team's T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Soung, Antigua & Barbuda on Friday (June 21).
The 31-year-old, who claimed the first hattrick of the ongoing edition, removed experienced campaigner Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan off the last two deliveries of the 18th over and then returned to dismiss Towhid Hridoy with the first ball of the last over to complete the hattrick.

This was the seventh hat-trick in the T20 World Cup. The country's Test and ODI captain joined Brett Lee, the only other Australian to take a T20 World Cup hat-trick, which also came against Bangladesh.
Lee was the first to claim a hat-trick in the marquee event way back in 2007 and the Australian remained the only one to achieve the feat until the 2021 edition. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, Ireland pacer Curtis Campher, Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and South African quick Kagisa Rabada joined the elusive list.
Campher's achievement was all the more special as the Irishman is the lone player to take a double hattrick with four wickets in a row against Netherlands. Hasaranga also like Cummins claimed the hattrick across 2 overs.
Other bowlers to claim a hat-trick in the T20 World Cup include UAE's Karthik Meiyappan (2022) and Joshua Little (2022) of Ireland. Here is a look at the complete list of hat-tricks in T20 World Cup history:
It was also the first hat-trick of Cummins' T20I career. He was also the fourth Australian to claim a hattrick in the shortest fomat on the international stage after legend Lee, spinner Ashton Agar and pacer Nathan Ellis, who are part of the 2024 squad.
Lee claimed the first recorded hattrick in T20Is during the inaugural T20 World Cup, while Ellis joined the list by claiming three wickets in a row on his debut. Here is a look at the list of hattricks by Australians in T20Is:
"I had a few (hat-tricks) in juniors but never for Australia. (Ashton) Agar and (Nathan Ellis on the bench have T20 hat-tricks so good to join that club," Cummins, who was adjudged the player of the match said. "Pretty awesome to tick that off. Boys are welcoming me in the club. Good club to be part of," he added.
The fast bowler, who has been enjoying a purple patch in international cricket over the past year, finished with figures of 3/29, as Australia defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs via the Duckworth Lewis method at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
