“He Says It’s Double Lock, But...": Vijaykumar Vyshak Highlights Shreyas Iyer Leadership and Ricky Ponting's Influence

Punjab Kings pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak credited the team's leadership group, particularly captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, for creating a positive environment that has translated into strong performances on the field.

Vyshak, who has been one of PBKS' standout bowlers early in IPL 2026, pointed to the leadership style within the dressing room as a key factor behind the team's confidence and unity.

Speaking about captain Shreyas Iyer's role in maintaining a supportive atmosphere, Vyshak emphasised how approachable the skipper remains for players across the squad.

"He is very supportive and backs his players even when they aren't doing well. He keeps the environment light. His door is always open-he says it's on "double lock" but he's always available to talk. As a senior who has played for India, his willingness to help is something we thrive on."

The Karnataka pacer also highlighted the clarity provided by Iyer in pressure situations, particularly in tactical decisions during matches.

"The captain decided we should go for wide yorkers because he was scoring heavily through mid-wicket and square leg. Shreyas has a lot of brains and is an outstanding captain; we just had to execute his plan."

Beyond captaincy, Vyshak also acknowledged the influence of head coach Ricky Ponting and bowling coach James Hopes in shaping the team's mindset.

"Ricky is one of the best coaches. He is a legend but stays so positive regardless of what happens. James Hopes gives us "hope" that we will do well. The confidence they give us is immense."

Vyshak further spoke about the importance of team culture, suggesting that internal motivation and competition within the squad play a significant role in driving performances.

"Regarding the dressing room, we want to play for each other and create positive energy. There is healthy competition within the team, and we stand up for one another."
