Highest T20I Partnership: Shubman Gill-Yashasvi Jaiswal Equal Record For Second Highest Indian Stand

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill equalled the record for the joint second highest partnership for India in T20Is during the fourth T20I against West Indies on Saturday (August 12).

Gill-Jaiswal achieved the feat at the Central Broward Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida, where the duo added 165 for the opening wicket, which also is a record joint-highest opening stand for India in T20Is. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were the other pair that shared the stand earlier in 2017.

While the latest partnership is a record-equalling opening stand for India in T20Is, it fell well-short of the record stand in the shortest format for the country. That record is still held by Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda, who shared a 176-run stand in 2022. Here is a look at the top 5 Indian partnerships.

Highest T20I Partnership For India

1. Deepak Hooda & Sanju Samson - 176 runs vs Ireland in 2022 (Dublin)

2. Rohit Sharma & KL Rahul - 165 runs vs Sri Lanka in 2017 (Indore)

3. Yashasvi Jaiswal & Shubman Gill - 165 runs vs West Indies in 2023 (Lauderhill)

4. Rohit Sharma & Shikhar Dhawan - 160 runs vs Ireland in 2018 (Dublin)

5. Rohit Sharma & Shikhar Dhawan - 158 runs vs New Zealand in 2017 (Delhi)

Rohit, the skipper, has been involved in many century stands in the shortest format. Samson and Hooda achieved the highest stand for India by sharing second-wicket partnership.

The highest-ever partnership in T20Is is between Usman Ghani and Hazratullah Zazai, of 236 runs for Afghanistan against Ireland in 2019. It is also the highest opening stand in T20Is.

Also during the knock, Jaiswal, at the age of 21 years and 227 days, became the youngest Indian opener to score a T20I fifty. The youngest Indian to score a T20I fifty is Rohit Sharma, who scored a half-century against South Africa in 2007 at the age of 20 years and 143 days.

Coming back to the India vs West Indies 4th T20I, Jaiswal (84 not out off 51 balls) and Gill (77 off 47 balls) powered the visitors to a series-levelling win with almost three overs to spare in the run chase of 179.
