England Rewrite T20I Record Books Against India: Full List of Records Created by Jos Buttler and Harry Brook in Southampton
Southampton, July 11: Riding upon a brutal batting display, indisciplined bowling and poor fielding from the Indians, England batters rewrote the record books in the fifth and final T20I at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday (July 11), posting a mammoth 257/3 after being asked to bat first.
Former captain Jos Buttler hammered a career-best 131, while captain Harry Brook remained unbeaten on 95 as the pair dismantled the Indian bowling attack with a record-breaking 233-run partnership as the hosts eye a whitewash against the reigning T20 world champions.

The extraordinary batting assault saw England register the highest-ever T20I total against India, while Buttler and Brook combined for England's biggest partnership in the shortest format.
From 20-plus run overs and six-hitting records to Brook's remarkable impact throughout the series, here is a look at the major records created during England's innings in Southampton.
England Register Highest T20I Total Against India
England's 257/3 is now the highest total recorded by any team against India in T20I cricket.
Remarkably, England also held the previous record, having smashed 246/7 against India at the Wankhede Stadium earlier in 2026.
West Indies' 245/6 at Lauderhill in 2016 has now slipped to third on the list.
Highest T20I Totals Against India
| Score | Team | Venue | Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 257/3 | England | Southampton | 2026 |
| 246/7 | England | Wankhede | 2026 |
| 245/6 | West Indies | Lauderhill | 2016 |
| 227/3 | South Africa | Indore | 2022 |
England have now registered the two highest T20I totals against India, with both coming in 2026.
England Record Their Third-Highest T20I Total
The 257/3 in Southampton was also England's third-highest total in T20 International cricket.
Their highest remains the mammoth 304/2 against South Africa in Manchester in 2025, followed by 267/3 against West Indies at Tarouba in 2023.
The latest effort, however, was England's highest-ever T20I total against India.
Buttler-Brook Partnership Enters T20I Record Books
Buttler and Brook joined forces after the fall of the first wicket and proceeded to tear apart the Indian attack.
The pair added a staggering 233 runs for the second wicket, recording the highest partnership for any wicket in England's T20I history.
Their partnership is also the highest-ever stand against India in T20 Internationals.
The 233-run association also became the second-highest partnership for any wicket among Full Member nations in men's T20Is.
Highest T20I Partnerships Among Full Member Teams
| Runs | Batters | Wicket | Opposition | Venue | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 236 | Hazratullah Zazai - Usman Ghani | 1st | Ireland | Dehradun | 2019 |
| 233 | Jos Buttler - Harry Brook | 2nd | India | Southampton | 2026 |
| 223 | Aaron Finch - D'Arcy Short | 1st | Zimbabwe | Harare | 2018 |
| 210* | Sanju Samson - Tilak Varma | 2nd | South Africa | Johannesburg | 2024 |
Buttler and Brook fell just four runs short of equalling the Full Member record of 236 set by Afghanistan's Hazratullah Zazai and Usman Ghani against Ireland in 2019.
India Concede Five 20-Plus Run Overs for First Time
The scale of England's assault can also be gauged by the number of expensive overs bowled by India.
England scored 20 or more runs from five different overs during their innings - the most India have ever conceded in a T20 International.
Before the Southampton T20I, India had never conceded more than three 20-plus run overs in a single T20I innings.
The statistic summed up the struggles of the Indian bowling attack as Buttler and Brook repeatedly found the boundaries.
Indian Bowlers Concede 17 Sixes
England's batters cleared the boundary 17 times during their 20 overs. It was the second-highest number of sixes India have conceded in a T20 International.
The only occasion India conceded more came against West Indies at Lauderhill in 2016, when the Caribbean batters smashed 21 sixes. Buttler and Brook were the chief architects of the six-hitting carnage in Southampton as the Indian bowlers struggled to find answers.
Harry Brook's Incredible Impact on England's Scoring Rate
Brook's importance to England's batting lineup was once again highlighted by a remarkable statistic from the five-match series.
England scored at an astonishing rate of 12.47 runs per over whenever Brook was at the crease during the series.
In comparison, England's scoring rate dropped to 9.32 runs per over when Brook was not in the middle.
The England captain continued his exceptional series in Southampton, smashing an unbeaten 95 and narrowly missing out on a century.
Brook also brought up his half-century from just 19 balls, joining an elite list of batters to score the fastest T20I fifties against India.
Jos Buttler Smashes Career-Best 131
While Brook provided the aggression, Buttler produced the defining innings of the match. The England star hammered 131 to register his career-best score in T20 International cricket.
Buttler's century, combined with Brook's unbeaten 95, powered England past 250 and helped the hosts set India a daunting target of 258.

England's innings in Southampton produced a staggering collection of records.
- Highest T20I total against India - 257/3

- England's highest-ever T20I partnership - 233 runs
