Royal Challengers Bengaluru's near-impossible record of the highest total in Indian Premier League (IPL) history has been broken not once, but twice within the space of a week in IPL 2024.
On Wednesday (April 3), Kolkata Knight Riders rode on Sunil Narine's quickfire 85 off 39 balls and Angkrish Raghuvanshi's 54 to post 272/7 in the allotted 20 overs against Delhi Capitals in match 16 of IPL 2024 at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Andre Russell (41 off 19) and Rinku Singh (26 off 8) also got into the act as KKR smashed 18 sixes in the innings, their most in a singles inning in IPL history. During the innings, KKR also surpassed their own record to post the highest powerplay score this season.
That innings total of 272 surpassed RCB's tally of 263, but fell just short of the record score - 277, posted by Sunrisers Hyderabad against Mumbai Indians earlier this season on Wednesday (March 27) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
While they missed out posting the highest team score in IPL history, KKR posted their own highest total in the lucrative league with their previous best being 245 in 2018 season. Here is a look at the highest totals in IPL:
Till 2023 season, no team had scored over 250 runs in the IPL, but since the last edition three teams have gone past that milestone, while two teams even got closer to 300 which could become a reality if matches are played on such flat tracks.
As mentioned earlier, KKR, the holders of the record for the highest ever powerplay score, posted the highest total inside the six overs twice this season. KKR first scored 85/0 vs RCB in Bengaluru before surpassing that score against DC in Vizag.
This was also the fourth highest powerplay score in IPL history. Here is a look at the highest powerplay scores, which is topped by KKR, in the Indian Premier League so far:
