Highest Team Score in IPL: SRH & KKR Break RCB Record For Highest Total in Indian Premier League

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday (March 27) broke the record for highest team score in Indian Premier League history in IPL 2024 league stage match against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

SRH rode on quickfire fifties from Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen to post a total of 277/3 in their allotted 20 overs as Mumbai Indians bowlers including Jasprit Bumrah looked clueless. In the run chase, MI posted the joint fourth highest total in IPL.

Sunrisers Hyderabad broke RCB s more than a decade record of Highest totals in IPL history

Kolkata Knight Riders registered the second highest total in IPL history after scoring 272/7 against Delhi Capitals at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday (April 3).

This is the second time that RCB's impossible total has been surpassed in a single season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru had held the record for highest team score in IPL, having scored a total of 263/5 in the 2013 season in a league stage match against now defunct Pune Warriors India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

On a record-breaking 23 April 2013, RCB rode on Chris Gayle's unbeaten 175 off 66 balls to register one of the biggest totals in IPL history. Gayle then returned with the bowling figures of 2 for 5 to seal a 130-run win for the Bengaluru-based side.

While that record seemed impossible to break or even get close to in a T20 match, Lucknow Super Giants had come close in the 2023 season when they rode on fifties from Marcus Stoinis (72 off 40) and Kyle Mayers (54 off 24) to set a total of 257/5 against Punjab Kings in Mohali.

From 184/3 in 15 overs, LSG were well on their way to become the highest scorers in IPL, having scored 51 runs in the next three overs thanks to another cameo from Nicholas Pooran, but Sam Curran and Arshdeep Singh kind of controlled the run-flow in the end.

Before LSG's 257, RCB, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings (twice) came close to that record total, but had to settle for 240 plus scores in the end. Here is a look at the highest totals in IPL history:
