Hot Weather cricket begins in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, May 23 (UNI) A month-long Chandigarh Hot Weather Open Cricket Tournament, showcasing nearly 44 teams from different clubs, schools and institutions, kicked off here today.

Adviser to the UT Administrator Lalit Sharma inaugurated the knockout tournament at the Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.

The first match of the tournament is between Cricket Coaching Centre of Sector 16 and DAV School, Sector 15.

The matches would be held on a daily basis, under the guidelines set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. These matches would also be organised at the Cricket Ground of St John High School, Sector 26 after May 31 onwards.

The month-long tournament is being organised by the UT Sports Department for the first time for encouraging the youth to take up sports as such competitions and tournaments not only provide recreation for human beings, but also keep them healthy.
