How can Gautam Gambhir create a lasting legacy which even The Wall of Indian cricket Rahul Dravid couldn't achieve?

Gautam Gambhir embarked on a new chapter of his cricketing venture as he took over the mantle from Rahul Dravid as Team India's head coach. India's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka (3 T20Is, 3 ODIs) will mark Gambhir's debut as head coach.

It remains to be seen how he will go about his work and join hands with the players in his new assignment. At the moment, plenty of thoughts must have been hovering over his head, with a vision to create a legacy, which India's Test legend, Rahul Dravid couldn't achieve when he was at the helm.

How can Gautam Gambhir create a lasting legacy which even The Wall of Indian cricket Rahul Dravid couldn t achieve

Under David's tutelage, India braved the challenges, defied the odds and reached the WTC 2023 final before losing to Australia in the showdown. However, Rahul Dravid couldn't be any happier upon cementing his name in the annals of Indian cricket history by winning the T20 World Cup as a coach.

With this title triumph, India have decorated their trophy cabinet with 2 ODI World Cups (1983, 2011), 2 T20I World Cups (2007, 2024), and 2 Champions Trophy (2002, 2013). Nevertheless, WTC is one title India have never won, despite being the runners-up of the first two editions.

Gautam Gambhir would want to change that narrative by tweaking some changes wherever necessary to turn India into a formidable force in the third cycle of the WTC. For that, he would need assistance from India's big five in Tests - Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah.

The aforementioned players have done incredibly well for the team in the purest format of the game. The players are wary of the fact that their team lost the finals of the last two editions, surrendering at the hands of New Zealand and Australia in the showdowns.

Gambhir would give absolutely everything to bring the best out of his teammates in the hope of winning the WTC trophy for the first time such that Team India would become the second team to win all the major ICC titles across formats.

As things stand, Team India is on top of the WTC 2023/25 points table with 68.51%, including six wins, two draws and a defeat in nine games. Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team are slated to play their next Test assignment against Bangladesh in September where they will play two Tests at Chepauk and Kanpur.
