Mohammad Kaif has expressed confidence in Virat Kohli's ability to overcome his current lean phase in Test cricket. Kaif believes that Kohli could regain his form before the next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle if he actively participates in domestic cricket.
Kaif highlighted that Kohli hasn't featured in the Ranji Trophy for over a decade, primarily due to international scheduling conflicts, and suggested that playing domestic cricket could help Kohli rediscover his rhythm.

Speaking on the matter, Kaif emphasized the importance of game time and chalked out 4 possible ways to overcome, stating, "Virat Kohli can make a comeback. He can overcome it, there is no doubt about it. If you have determination, made up your mind that you are going to put your efforts into it, spend time, play domestic cricket, play on turning tracks, and seaming tracks, play practice games, and stay regularly in touch''.
Kaif also criticized senior Indian players, including Rohit Sharma, for not participating in domestic cricket. He urged the BCCI to enforce a rule requiring all international players to compete in domestic tournaments, advocating for strict measures against those who disregard this policy. As examples, Kaif pointed to players like Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer, who were reportedly removed from the central contracts for neglecting domestic commitments.
Kohli's recent performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) raised concerns, as he managed only 190 runs across nine innings. His technique came under scrutiny after being dismissed by deliveries outside off-stump on whopping eight occasions. Additionally, Kohli's Test batting average last year stood at a modest 24.53. His struggles weren't limited to pace; during the home series against New Zealand, he faced challenges against left-arm off-spinners as well.
India, reeling from a heavy defeat of 1-3 against Australia in the BGT, the Men in Blue will aim to bounce back in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, starting February 19 in the UAE. Before that, Kohli and Rohit will seek form and momentum in a home white-ball series against England.
