How has Samit Dravid earned his place in India U-19 Team? His Key Performances

Samit Dravid, the son of former Indian captain and coach Rahul Dravid, has recently been selected in India’s U-19 squad for the first time. The youngster is set to take on the Australia U-19 side in the upcoming multi-format series.

All eyes are on the 18-year-old youngster, who now has an opportunity to represent India in junior cricket and carry on his father’s legacy.

Samit recently played his first T20 tournament – the Maharaja Trophy T20 in Karnataka, where he played for Mysore Warriors led by Karun Nair.

Batting in the middle order, Samit scored a total of 82 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 11.88 in the Maharaja Trophy 2024. He was dropped from the last four games of the side including the semi-final and the final. Mysore defeated Bengaluru Blasters to win their maiden Maharaja Trophy title on Sunday, September 1.

Earlier this year, Samit had played a significant role for Karnataka in the Cooch Behar Trophy. His state won the competition and Rahul Dravid's son played a key part in it.

He scored 362 runs and took 16 wickets in 8 matches, including 2 wickets in the final against Mumbai. Samit also scored three half-centuries with the bat with a highest score of 98.

The right-hander also featured in the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, and scored 122 runs in four innings with 87 his highest.

India Under-19 will play three 50-over matches against Australia Under-19. The three ODIs will be played in Puducherry on September 21,23 and 26, followed by two four-day games in Chennai, on September 30 and October 7 respectively.
