“It Never Felt Like We’d Lost Every Game”: How KKR Fixed Their IPL 2026 Season, According to Cameron Green

For weeks, Kolkata Knight Riders looked like a team still searching for itself. The combinations kept changing. The batting order shifted almost every game. Results refused to come consistently. And yet, inside the dressing room, according to Cameron Green, panic never really arrived.

That belief is now beginning to show on the field. After KKR's crushing victory over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Green revealed that the franchise's upbeat dressing-room culture helped the side survive a turbulent first half of IPL 2026 - and perhaps quietly build momentum for a late playoff charge.

KKR

"I don't think the belief was ever gone. We've had a really good culture throughout the tournament," Green said after the win.

"Even before we won a game, it hasn't felt like we've lost every game by how upbeat everyone's been."

KKR finally look like a settled side

For much of IPL 2026, KKR's biggest issue was uncertainty. The franchise experimented heavily with batting positions and overseas combinations, often looking like a side still trying to understand its best XI halfway through the tournament.

But Green admitted the team simply needed time.

"I think our team was probably just finding the right combination and where guys should bat to best suit the team," he explained.

"We obviously took a few games to work that out but it was best for me and what was best for the other guys on the team. We've got to a really good place with that now."

That clarity is suddenly reflecting in results.

KKR now look far more balanced with aggressive starts at the top, middle-order stability, and perhaps most importantly, a bowling attack consistently keeping them in games.

Finn Allen becomes the symbol of new KKR attack

If KKR's revival has one face right now, it might just be Finn Allen. The New Zealand opener tore apart Delhi's bowling attack with a stunning unbeaten century, smashing 100* off just 47 deliveries during KKR's successful chase.

For Green, though, the innings felt inevitable rather than surprising.

"Finn was exceptional today. He's been really good for us - he's got off to amazing starts every single time he's been out there," Green said.

"That's exactly what we have got him in the team for. He's one of the best in the world at doing that and putting pressure back on."

What stood out most was Allen's refusal to slow down even after getting set.

"When he gets to 30 or 40, he's very hard to get out because he just keeps going. He never really tries to rein it back in."

That mindset now mirrors KKR's broader approach - relentless, attacking, and increasingly fearless.

Pressure of being an overseas player in the IPL

Green also opened up on one of the less-discussed realities of the IPL: the constant pressure attached to overseas slots.

Unlike Indian players, internationals know one poor run can immediately place their spot under threat.

"I think there's always pressure on international players because there's only four of us in the team at any given point," Green admitted.

"So, you have to be performing at all times because there are guys on the bench ready to go."

However, the Australian was quick to praise KKR's management for never making him feel burdened by his auction price or expectations.

"The support staff never put any pressure on me, they've been awesome to me since day one."

Green added that after going through multiple IPL auctions across the years, he has learned how to manage external noise.

"I've done it three times now, so I think I'm pretty used to it now."

"Slappers and timers": Green's hilarious dressing-room insight

Perhaps the most revealing moment from Green's press conference came while describing KKR's batting group.

While praising captain Ajinkya Rahane for his timing and composure, Green revealed a hilarious dressing-room phrase coined by Rovman Powell.

"I think Ajinkya Rahane is an exceptional timer of the ball, and Rovman Powell's called the rest of us slappers," Green laughed.

"It's good to have guys who can do both in your team."

The quote perfectly summed up KKR's current identity as calm anchors, explosive hitters, and finally, a structure that seems to complement itself.

KKR bowlers quietly built the comeback

While Allen's century stole headlines, Green made it clear that KKR's bowlers laid the foundation for their turnaround long before the batting exploded.

"We have fought really hard to get back into it, and our bowlers have been awesome throughout," he said.

"That was another exceptional game today."

With Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, pace variations, and flexible all-round options, KKR suddenly look like one of the more complete bowling units in the competition.

And after spending much of IPL 2026 trying to discover themselves, they now appear to be peaking at exactly the right time.
