How many India vs Pakistan matches can potentially take place in Asia Cup 2025? Not 1 or 2.....

By MyKhel Staff

The announcement of India vs Pakistan matches in the Asia Cup 2025 has sparked significant political and social backlash, especially in India.

The tension between the two countries has escalated following the Pahalgam terror attacks in April 2025, where 26 people were killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. This event heightened public emotions and led to calls for a complete boycott of cricketing ties with Pakistan. Some voices, such as Lieutenant General (Retd) KJS Dhillon, have openly called for India to sever cricket ties with Pakistan.

On social media, including platforms like X (formerly Twitter), criticism poured in, with some former players and Indian cricket fans urging the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to forfeit matches against Pakistan. For example, former under-19 World Cup winner Shreevats Goswami stated that India should forfeit the game to avoid angering the nation and questioned the benefits of participating against Pakistan.

Despite the backlash, top sources have confirmed that the India vs Pakistan matches will not be canceled. Officials emphasized that this is not a bilateral series but part of a multi-nation tournament, and forfeiting would give Pakistan an unfair advantage.

The BCCI, while officially the host of the tournament, is conducting the matches in a neutral venue (UAE) due to mutual agreement linked to ongoing political issues; India and Pakistan are not playing in each other's countries till at least 2027. The sports ministry is watching the public sentiment before exerting influence, given that BCCI does not currently fall under their direct regulation.

Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly condemned terrorism but maintained that "sport should go on," representing one viewpoint supporting the continuance of matches despite public criticism.

Amid this, if one looks at the schedule, may realize that the India and Pakistan clash may not be a one-off situation in this Asia Cup.

How many times can India face Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025?

India and Pakistan can face each other potentially three times in the Asia Cup 2025. The two nations have been placed in Group A, alongside the UAE and Oman. Their first scheduled clash is on September 14 in the group stage, followed likely by a Super Four stage encounter on September 21. A third meeting could occur in the final if both teams qualify, making the total of three matches between them.
