How much Money will Gautam Gambhir earn as Head Coach of India? What are the additional privileges?

By MyKhel Staff

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formally announced the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as Team India's new head coach on July 9, 2024 (Tuesday).

While the ex-India batter was always the frontrunner to replace Rahul Dravid, official confirmation was eagerly awaited. With the confirmation, Gambhir is set to take charge from the Sri Lanka series.

The job of the head coach of the Indian cricket team is always a high-profile one, and there are a lot of perks and financial compensation associated with it.

A Handsome Salary Package and Perks

Reports had suggested that salary negotiations were the primary reason for the delay in Gambhir's official confirmation as head coach. While Rahul Dravid, Gambhir's predecessor, was drawing an annual salary of Rs 12 crore, Gambhir is expected to earn even more. The former KKR mentor is likely to earn significantly more than Dravid, who took India to the T20 World Cup glory.

The annual salary is just one aspect of the perks associated with being the India head coach. In 2019, the BCCI revised its daily allowance policy, significantly enhancing the benefits for the head coach. The coach is entitled to a daily allowance of $250 (nearly Rs 21,000) during away tours, a substantial increase from the previous amount. This daily allowance is in addition to business class travel, accommodation, and laundry expenses covered by the BCCI, as reported by news agency IANS.

Gambhir's Journey and Expectations

Gautam Gambhir's appointment as head coach marks a new chapter in his illustrious cricketing career. Known for his aggressive batting style and strategic acumen, Gambhir brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the role. His tenure as coach will commence with India's tour of Sri Lanka, where the team is set to play three ODIs and three T20Is starting July 27, 2024.
