After a gap of almost sixteen years, Virat Kohli is tipped to make a return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The India stalwart last played in the List A domestic competition in 2009-10 season, and will make a return to the 50-over format for Delhi in the upcoming season.

Kohli will don the Delhi shirt in the competition, as it was confirmed by DDCA. The Vijay Hazare Trophy starts December 24, following the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and Delhi are placed in Group D - along with Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Saurashtra, Odisha, Services, Railways and Haryana.

The BCCI determines match fees for domestic List A tournaments like the Vijay Hazare Trophy strictly based on a player's total List A match experience, regardless of their international stature or central contract status. Players with 20 or fewer List A appearances earn Rs 40,000 per match, those with 21 to 40 matches receive Rs 50,000 per match, and those with 41 or more, such as Virat Kohli with over 300 List A games, qualify for the top tier of Rs 60,000 per match.

This uniform structure applies only to league-stage games and underscores the standardized pay in domestic cricket, far below Kohli's A+ central contract retainer of INR 7 crore annually plus higher international fees.

Delhi faces seven league games, but Kohli may play only three: versus Andhra on December 24, Gujarat on December 26, and Railways on January 6. This could net him Rs 1.8 lakh total from the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Kohli played in the Ranji Trophy last season as per BCCI norms, and now he will be returning in the domestic limited overs format after more than one and a half decade.
