India have won their third T20 World Cup title as they beat New Zealand comprehensively in the T20 WC 2026 final on Sunday (March 8).
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad witnessed a brilliant display from the Indian team as they saw through the Kiwis with ease and wo the match by 96 runs.

Batting first, India posted a mammoth total of 255/5 in their 20 overs. Sanju Samson was the star of the show again with another brilliant 89 runs, while Abhishek Sharma also roared to form with a quickfire 52 off just 21 balls. Ishan Kishan also notched up a half-century, and Shivam Dube's late flurry helped India to post the gigantic total, the highest in any T20 World Cup final over the years.
In the run chase, New Zealand lost wickets in regular intervals. Tim Seifert scored a decent fifty but Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah and other bowlers chipped in with wickets as India completed a comfortable victory. Bumrah picked up 4 wickets as the Kiwis were bowled out for 159 runs.
Top honours has come with a historic payday as winners are set to receive $3 million (about ₹27 crore), a big leap from past champions' cuts and a fitting reward for mastering the intense showdown.
Runners-up bag $1.6 million (roughly ₹14.6 crore), and the two semi-final losers each take home $790,000 (around ₹7 crore). Hitting the final four guarantees major windfalls for teams and their governing bodies.
The ICC's tiered, performance-driven model spreads the wealth further. Super 8 finishers (5th-12th) earn $380,000, while group-stage dropouts (13th-20th) secure a flat $250,000 each.
As the Winners, India have received USD 3 million prize money, which is Rs 27.48 crore in Indian currency.
As Runners-Up, New Zealand have received USD 1.6 million/ Rs 14.65 crore

England and South Africa have won USD 0.79 million/ Rs 7.23 crore as losing semifinalists.
The teams who were ousted in the Super 8s have received USD 0.38 million, which Rs 3.48 crore in Indian currency each. The teams are - Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and West Indies.
The other 12 teams, who were eliminated in the group stages have won USD 0.25 million/ Rs 2.28 crore each.
