The upcoming edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to commence on Thursday (February 9). The familiar foes India and Australia will lock horns for a four-match Test series.
Throughout the years, the clashes between India and Australia have generated some unforgettable memories. The iconic duels, amazing displays with both bat and ball have enthralled the spectators across the globe.
Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the greatest ever cricketer in the world, has had his say as well during his playing days. Tendulkar had some outstanding periods against Australia both at home and away Test matches where he piled up a lot of runs. And when it comes to numbers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Tendulkar currently leads the way in many departments.
The Indian legend, who has scored the most number of runs in both Tests and ODIs, has amassed 3262 runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the most by a player in the series.
He also dominates the departments like Most centuries (9), Most fifties (16). Sachin scored two double hundreds against the Aussies in his career. He scored an unbeaten 241 in Sydney in the historic series in 2004, while scored 214 in Bengaluru in 2010.

Tendulkar also has hit the most individual Fours and Sixes in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy thus far, with 391 fours and clearing the fence 25 times.
The master-blaster, as Tendulkar was known during his playing days, won the Player of the Match award 5 times against the Aussies, which is the highest in the BGT.
Tendulkar was awarded the Player of the Series thrice in BGT throughout the years, which is also the most for a player in this particular Test series history.
| BGT Edition | Venue | Runs | Highest |
| 1997/98 | India | 446 | 177 |
| 1999/00 | Australia | 278 | 116 |
| 2010/11 | India | 403 | 214 |
Sachin Tendulkar's numbers speak for themselves. The undisputed champion of the cricketing world has been a stalwart of the game and has records galore for his name.
Well, this is a hard question to answer. One of the main reasons that Tendulkar could amass his numbers in the first place was the longevity of his game. A career spanning more than two decades played a pivotal part without a doubt. The current crop of Indian players does have a plethora of potential, but it has to be seen how they can implement that in the coming years. Cheteshwar Pujara is the highest run-scoring current Indian batter with 1893 runs against Australia in BGT, followed by Virat Kohli (1682). The duo will have to score heavily in the upcoming editions to hover around Tendulkar's numbers, but for now, it looks a far-fetched scenario.
