PBKS vs MI: The second qualifier of IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians is underway at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with a place in the final up for grabs. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first in what has already been a rain-affected evening.
The match faced a delay of over two hours before finally beginning at 9:45 PM IST. With inclement weather still lingering, there's a real possibility that the rain could return and further disrupt play. If that happens during the second innings, the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method could be brought into action to decide the outcome.

The DLS method is a well-established system in limited-overs cricket, used to recalculate the target for the chasing team in rain-curtailed matches. It factors in two key elements: the number of overs remaining and the number of wickets in hand, treating them as resources that a team can use to score runs.
Both teams are assumed to begin with 100% of their scoring resources-20 overs and 10 wickets. As the game progresses, these resources diminish depending on how many overs have been used and how many wickets have been lost. For example, a team at 10 overs with 5 wickets down has fewer resources than one with 10 wickets intact.
If rain interrupts play during the second innings and overs are lost, the batting side's new target is adjusted based on the percentage of resources remaining compared to what the first team used.
Fair Outcome: The formula used is: Revised Target = Team 1's Score x (Team 2's Resources / Team 1's Resources)
This approach ensures a balanced result that reflects the match conditions and preserves fairness. Should the weather intervene again tonight, the DLS method will be key in determining who moves on to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the grand finale.
If further play is not possible then the match will get abandoned and Punjab will qualify for the summit clash by virtue of finishing 1st in the league stage.
