HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala Pitch Report & Weather Forecast for SA vs NED ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Match 15

HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala is all set to stage it's third ODI World Cup match as the picturesque venue will see South Africa lock horns with Netherlands in the fifteenth match of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (October 17).

Temba Bavuma's South Africa will look to maintain their winning run, having won the first two matches in the tournament, while Scott Edwards-led Netherlands will look to bounce back and get in the win column after two defeats in two so far.

South Africa opened their campaign with a thumping win over Sri Lanka in Delhi, where they scored the highest total in ODI World Cup history, and followed that with another handsome win against record champions Australia in Lucknow.

Netherlands, on the other hand, fell short by 81 runs against Pakistan in their tournament opener in Hyderabad, where they also suffered a 99-run loss to the in-form New Zealand.

Both teams have played on different surfaces. While South Africa played on a belter in Delhi and a little challenging Lucknow pitch, Netherlands played both their matches at a batter's paradise in Hyderabad.

And none of their two matches were affected by rain or any other weather conditions. But with some parts of the country witnessing showers in the last few days, here is a look at the weather forecast and pitch report for SA vs NED ICC World Cup 2023 match 15:

Dharamsala Weather Forecast on October 17

There is chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon on Tuesday (October 17), while there is also forecast for a partly sunny, cloudy and cool day with a maximum temperature of 16° C in the day, going down to 13° C at the close of play.

Rain prediction in Dharamsala on October 17: There is more than 50 percent chance of thunderstorms from 2 PM to 4 PM Local Time (IST), but once that stops, the sky is likely to remain cloudy for the remainder of the day. So, there is a chance of rain interrupting play.

As per Weather Channel, there is bad weather expected from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM Local Time, meaning the start of play and the toss is likely to be delayed and the match it self could be a shortened one if rain stays away after the four-hour spell.

Also, the dew will be a factor when the rain goes away at the venue, especially in the later stages of the second innings. While the weather is likely to cause some concerns, will the wicket be any different?

HPCA Stadium pitch report for SA vs NED World Cup match

As per reports, only three pitches (all black soil) of the nine are likely to be used for the World Cup. In the two matches held so far, there have been contrasting results with one ending in favour of the team chasing and the other in favour of the team setting a target.

The first match saw Bangladesh bundle out Afghanistan for 156 and chase the target down with 6 wickets and 15.2 overs to spare, while the second match saw England defend a total of 364/9, the highest at the venue, as they bundled out Bangladesh for 227.

Despite the boundaries being on the shorter side on the squares and the most recent match seeing a score of over 350, the average total in the limited number of matches at this venue is just 197.

Overall, the record suggests teams have struggled to post total above 250 at this venue in ODIs and the teams batting second have won four of the six One Day Internationals played here. So, expect the pattern to continue even on Tuesday (October 17) especially if rain and dew come into play.
