'I am Honoured': Sourav Ganguly thanks Jay Shah after ICC Hall of Fame Inclusion

Sourav Ganguly was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on July 11, 2026, during a ceremony in Edinburgh as part of the Class of 2026, alongside Kevin Pietersen and Anjum Chopra.

This brings the total number of Hall of Famers to 125. The former India captain becomes the 12th Indian and 10th Indian men's player to receive cricket's highest individual honour.

An elegant left-hander famous for his off-side mastery, Ganguly announced himself with centuries in his first two Test innings in 1996. He amassed 7,212 runs in 113 Tests and 11,363 in 311 ODIs. As captain, he rebuilt the team post the 2000 match-fixing crisis, grooming a new generation that reached the 2003 World Cup final, won the 2002 NatWest Trophy, and secured joint Champions Trophy honours. His side also triumphed in the 2001 Border-Gavaskar series and achieved India's first Test series win in Pakistan.

The former India captain became the 12th Indian to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, and after his inclusion, Ganguly shared a heartfelt message on social media. Ganguly, who turned 54 on July 8, thanked the ICC president Jay Shah, for the inclusion.

"I am honoured to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. To have my name included among the cricket's greatest players will remain one of my most cherished moments. Representing India and playing along with several grades of the game, has been a privilege. And to now be recognised in this way is truly special," Ganguly said.

"I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Mr Jay Shah for this huge honour, which I consider the highest recognition a cricketer can receive. This game has given me a lot. And I hope to continue to serve the game in the years to come. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my near and dear ones for their support over the years," he added.
