'I am Human, I am Allowed..': Gautam Gambhir makes huge admission, Shares Olympics Wish

By MyKhel Staff

India's head coach Gautam Gambhir has expressed keen interest in the Olympics, saying that he would love to be a part of the Olympics setup for India.

The India head coach, who recently won the T20 World Cup, said it during his talk at RevSportz Trailblazers 4.0 on Day Two.

"I would love to be part of the Olympics. It's a huge honour. Very few get the honour of representing India at the Olympics," Gambhir said.

He underscored the importance of unwavering trust in players, even through slumps, prioritizing long-term faith over fleeting outcomes. The India head coach has been under the scanner with team selections, but his choice proved right as the likes of Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan did extremely well for India in the T20 World Cup crown.

"You don't pick a squad on hope. You pick a squad on trust and faith. You don't lose trust after just three or four matches. I'm human and I also make mistakes. Wrong decisions with the right intent are acceptable. Wrong decisions with the wrong intent are never allowed in that dressing room," he added.

Gambhir portrayed team success as a shared achievement, extending credit beyond stars to the full ecosystem.

"Success is never about one person. It belongs to everyone in the dressing room, from the players to the support staff."

Reflecting on challenges ahead, he noted the complexities of Test cricket transitions compared to limited-overs formats. The Indian team has struggled in Test cricket in the last few years, with losing home series against New Zealand and South Africa being big concerns. But the India head coach thinks the team will sooner get its feet back in the red-ball format.

Gambhir revealed his reliance on gut feel over pure analytics.

"I have taken all the calls on my instincts. My instincts are faster than data, and sometimes data too can be misleading."
