In a landmark moment for Indian cricket, the Mumbai Cricket Association has officially named a stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium after Rohit Sharma.
The Level 3 of the Divecha Pavilion will now be known as the "Rohit Sharma Stand," honoring one of the most prolific cricketers produced by Mumbai and a stalwart of Indian cricket.

This recognition places Rohit in the esteemed company of cricketing greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Vijay Merchant- each of whom already has a stand or area named in their honour at Wankhede. Rohit led India to a victorious T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025, ending a decade-long drought of ICC titles.
And Rohit Sharma's coach Dinesh Lad is extremely proud to see his student's name engraved in the annals of the Wankhede Stadium. It was Lad who unearthed Rohit's talent, and while speaking with MyKhel exclusively, the coach echoes profound happiness.
"I am very proud of Rohit. I saw him, a 12-year-old kid as a bowler. I promoted him in batting. Although he had talent, if I hadn't seen his batting, I couldn't have told him to focus more on batting. Thank God, the decision that I took, he also focused on that. I feel very satisfied today. To make his name at the Wankhede is special," says Lad.
The India captain has been a stalwart of the game but in recent times, runs haven't been coming in heaps and bounds for him. In the IPL 2025, the Mumbai Indians player has struggled with just 56 runs in five matches. But Lad envisions no immediate concern.
"In T20 cricket, you can't predict who will do what. In T20s, you just swing the bat. If you (me) swing the bat, you can also score 100 runs. I am not worried about that. If he fails to score in ODIs or Tests, I may be worried, but not about IPL," the coach concludes.
The MCA highlighted Rohit's longstanding contributions to Mumbai cricket. Having represented the team in 46 first-class matches, 17 List A games, and 25 T20s, Rohit's connection to the city's cricketing roots remains profound. His rise through the Mumbai cricket system to international superstardom serves as an aspirational blueprint for emerging talents across the country.
