Shreyas Iyer has once again underlined his leadership credentials by guiding the Sobo Mumbai Falcons into the semi-finals of the T20 Mumbai League 2025. And ahead of that, Iyer has given a clear message to his captaincy aspirations.
The seasoned campaigner has led from the front, both tactically and with the bat, ensuring the Falcons emerge as one of the top contenders for the title with an impressive four wins out of five league-stage matches.

The 30-year-old, known for his flamboyant strokeplay and composed mindset, has struck the right balance between youth and experience within the squad. As his team Sobo Mumbai Falcons advances to the semis, Iyer spoke highly about the unit and reflected on his time in the competition.
“It brings in a lot of maturity and responsibility. You are always expected to perform and contribute in the best way possible for the team because whenever there is a hurdle or some kind of adversity you face as a team, they always come to the captain. I think I have got a lot of experience as I have been captaining since I was 22. I have enjoyed the moments and also embraced it. I love the fact to come out and lead," said Iyer ahead of the semifinals.
Addressing how he approaches pressure situations, Iyer explained his mental strategy. The star player led Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final, a feat which the franchise achieved after 11 years.
"I just try to get into my zone and I try to do things which are there in front of me. I try to stay focused as much as possible, just to stay in the present, embrace the situation, embrace the crowd because sometimes they get very electrifying and pass on the energy to you. So I keep telling myself that I want the crowd to cheer my name, and that brings that kind of motivation," he added.
There have been talks about Iyer's captaincy in the ODI and T20I format, and the Mumbaikar has given a clear message to the selectors. The star player has showcased his class as a captain and won't mind giving it a crack at the highest stage.
From his early cricketing days at Shivaji Park to becoming a dependable force in India’s national side, Iyer’s journey is emblematic of perseverance and purpose. As the Falcons gear up for the knockouts, Shreyas Iyer’s form and leadership will be central to their title aspirations.
