Perth, Jan 13: India's opening batsman Rohit Sharma is keen to continue his good form and aims to score more "big hundreds" for the team in the ongoing 5-match ODI series against Australia.
Rohit set several records, including breaking Vivian Richards' 37-year-old mark, on way to an outstanding knock of 171 not out against Australia in the 1st ODI at Perth's WACA ground on Tuesday (January 12). However, his masterclass was not enough as the hosts won by 5 wickets, successfully chasing down 310. (Series photos)
The Mumbai batsman is not new to piling up scores in excess of 150. This was his 4th such instance of 'daddy hundreds'. He is the only batsman in ODI history to have registered 2 double tons. He holds the record for the .
Talking to the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) website after the match, Rohit said he wants to get more "big hundreds".
"We always talk about this in our team meeting that one batsman needs to carry on and bat as long and deep as possible. One set batsman batting till the end makes a huge difference. I feel I have been doing that of late.
"I have been getting past 100 and then trying my best to get bigger scores after the century. Hundred is just a milestone, but you have to look at it from the team's perspective as well. I want to get big hundreds for the team," the 28-year-old said.
Rohit admitted that he was disappointed to end up on the losing side. "It was a great knock and it is always important to start the series on a positive note. It was disappointing in the end not to be on the winning side because that is what matters at the end of the day.
"How many runs you score doesn't matter if your team doesn't end up winning. Personally it was important that I could get the team off to a good start and then carry on the momentum from there. That is exactly what I did," Rohit, who scored his 3rd ODI hundred in Australia (overal 9th of his career), said.
