'I will request Modi sahab', Shahid Afridi takes onus to resolve India-Pakistan conflicts

Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi wants to take up responsibility on himself to resolving the India-Pakistan cricketing conflict.

India and Pakistan rivalry is the flagship commodity of world cricket but it has become a thing of past. India last made their trip to Pakistan in 2005, while the last bilateral series between these arch-rivals happened back in 2013.

Hence a decade has gone since India and Pakistan last met in bilateral cricket. And now, even ICC and continental events are creating a conflict as the two nations have collided recently on Asia Cup and World Cup participation.

India decided not to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, and in return, Pakistan have threatened to boycott the World Cup which is set to take place in India later this year. And Afridi says he will request India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resume the cricket between the two countries.

I will request Modi Sahab: Afridi

"I will request Modi sahab to let cricket happen between both countries," Afridi said during the Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Doha, as per Indian Express.

In the recent conflict regarding Asia Cup, India and Pakistan are at odds and both neighbors are rigid in their stances. And Afridi has urged the BCCI to become 'friends' with PCB and try to resolve the conflict.

"What can we do if we want to befriend someone and he does not talk to us? There is no doubt that the BCCI is a very strong board, but when you are strong, you have more responsibility. You don't try to make more enemies, you need to make friends. When you make more friends, you become stronger," Afridi said.

The legends of India and Pakistan met in the LLC recently and it was such an amicable reunion of the yesteryear stars. There were moments to nostalgia and a wholesome display of friendship and mutual respect among the players of either side of the border.

I have friends in India team: Afridi

And Afridi also reveals he has many friends in the Indian team, revealing a special gift that he received from Suresh Raina.

"I still have friends in the Indian team when we meet, we discuss, the other day I met Raina and I asked for a bat, he gave me a bat," he said.

The political polarism has directly suffered sports and sportsmen of both countries have suffered because of that. An entire generation has been denied the thrill of India-Pakistan cricket and it is only imperative that the cricket between these two giants resume.
