Ibrahim Zadran on Tuesday (November 7) smashed an unbeaten 129 to become the first Afghanistan player to score a century in the ODI World Cup during match 39 of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.
Zadran achieved the feat against record champions Australia in a crucial match with semifinal hopes hanging in the balance at the iconic venue - Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Zadran reached the three-figure mark in 131 balls.

This was the 21-year-old's fifth century in ODI format and the first in the show-piece tournament for Afghanistan, for whom the previous highest score was 96, scored by Samiullah Shinwari versus Scotland in the 2015 World Cup.
Zadran had come close to reaching the landmark earlier in the tournament against Pakistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where he fell 13 runs short of a century. Now, he finally joins the unique list as he becomes the first player to score a hundred for his team.
