ICC against Zimbabwe's immediate return to Test cricket
Dubai, Jun 1 (UNI) Zimbabwe's hopes of making a return to Test cricket received a jolt with the ICC Cricket Committee cautioning that team's reinduction at the current standard risk undermining the integrity of the longer vesrion of the game.
The committee, headed by former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, felt that the team first needed to continue in its current practice of playing a number of representative four-day matches.
The committee encouraged the scheduling of such matches against ICC Full Member A teams and Associates with, for example, the inclusion of Zimbabwe in the next ICC Intercontinental Cup.
The Robert Mugabe government withdrew Zimbabwe from Test cricket last year. The Arican nation, however, still take part in one-day internationals and participated in this year's World Cup in the Caribbean.
