Who are the nominees for ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year 2023? The International Cricket Council on Wednesday (December 3) announced its four nominations each for the men's and women's ODI cricketer of the year 2023.
Indian players dominated the nominations in the men's category with Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Mohammed Shami vying for the prestigious ICC award. New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell is the other nomination.

The women's ODI cricketer of the year 2023 nominations included the names of Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka), Ashleigh Gardner (Australia), Amelia Kerr (New Zealand) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (England).
Looking at the male nominations for ODI cricketer of the year 2023, Shubman Gill looked very raw on the biggest platform but he delivered performances that would cement 2023 as his breakthrough year in international cricket. His best results were in the One-Day International (ODI) format, where he ended the year with 1584 runs at an average of 63.36.
It was the fifth-highest total of runs scored in one year in one-day internationals (ODIs) by an Indian, only topped by the sums scored by Sourav Ganguly (1999), Rahul Dravid (1999), and Sachin Tendulkar (1996, 1998). Alongside captain Rohit Sharma, Gill was a rock at the top of the Indian order with five hundreds and a strike-rate of over 100. The pair produced a number of memorable opening stands during the year.
Following up his 2022 comeback, Virat Kohli had an incredible 2023 in which he was at the top of his game in ODIs. He finished the year with an ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 Player of the Tournament performance.
India's third batsman hammered at least a half-century in nine of his eleven World Cup innings. He finished with an incredible 765 runs, surpassing the previous record established by Sachin Tendulkar in 2003 and became the highest individual batter to score at a men's cricket World Cup. With three hundreds, including one against New Zealand in the semi-finals, and a strike rate of 90.31, Kohli concluded the tournament with an average of 95.62.
Mohammed Shami elevated India's performance at the Cricket World Cup from a very mediocre first half of 2023 to a spectacular second half. Shami made a quick return to the starting XI after missing the first few games of the competition, and he finished as the tournament's top wicket-taker with 24 scalps at an incredible average of 10.7.
In the seven matches he participated in during the competition, Shami claimed three five-wicket hauls and one four-wicket haul. With 55 wickets in just 18 matches, the seamer broke the record for most wickets taken by India at Men's Cricket World Cups.
