International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah wished a great future for veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his decision to retire from international cricket after the Brisbane Test against Australia.
India's premier off-spinner R Ashwin on Wednesday (December 18) bid adieu to his international career in the middle of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia Down Under.

Since the word spread about Ashwin's retirement, wishes have been pouring in, congratulating him for his illustrious career, starting with ICC chair Shah, and current BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla.
"One of @bcci's greatest match-winners - a magician with the ball and an astute thinker of the game. An international career to be proud of @ashwinravi99, wishing you the best for the future," Jay Shah wrote on X.
Meanwhile, BCCI vice-president Shukla labelled Ashwin a "great bowler" and said that everyone should appreciate the senior spinner's contribution to world cricket as well as Indian cricket.
"Today, R Ashwin has announced his retirement. His contribution to world cricket, and Indian cricket is immense. This should be appreciated by everyone. BCCI also appreciates it and always salutes his contribution to world cricket as well as Indian cricket, particularly domestic cricket. He is a great bowler, he has got immense potential as far as the game is concerned. So, I wish him the best for his future endeavours," Rajiv Shukla said while speaking to ANI.
The 38-year-old retires from the game as the second highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 537 scalps in 106 games, placing him only behind the great Anil Kumble (619 wickets) in the overall statistics.
In the limited-overs format, being part of the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy-winning teams would count among the highlights of his career. He will continue to play club cricket, including the IPL, where he will return to compete for Chennai Super Kings next year.
"Today will be the last day for me as an India cricketer in all formats," Ashwin said at the end of the drawn third Test here in a joint press conference with captain Rohit Sharma during which he declined to take any questions and left after making the announcement.
