World Cup Day 1 (February 14): New Zealand, Australia cruise to victories

Christchurch, Feb 14: Hosts New Zealand and Australia, both favourites, launched their ICC World Cup 2015 campaigns in similar fashion, cruising to victories in Christchurch and Melbourne respectively on the first day of the tournament. New Zealand hammered Sri Lanka by 98 runs while Australia crushed England by 111 runs.

The 14-team tournament will see 49 matches over 44 days. The teams are divided into 2 groups of 7 each and top 4 from each pool qualify for knockout stage (quarter-finals). The final is on March 29 in Melbourne.

4.28 PM: All over. Australia beat England by 111 runs. Bizarre end to the game! Taylor (98) was given out LBW to Hazlewood by umpire Aleem Dar. But the batsman used Decision Review System (DRS) and the call was overruled as replays showed ball missing the legstump.
