The ICC World Cup is a quadrennial tournament which started in England back in 1975. In the inaugural two seasons (1975 and 1979), West Indies were crowned as Champions.
India won the tournament in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. In 1987, the World Cup was held outside England for the first time and Australia were crowned as Champions. After that, Pakistan won the World Cup under then-captain Imran Khan in 1992, followed by Sri Lanka in 1996.
Australia's dominance then started from 1999, as the Aussies won the tournament thrice in a row - 1999, 2003 and 2007. India lifted the trophy back in 2011 and thus became the first team to win the cricket World Cup as hosts. Australia won it again in 2015 and then it was England who won it in the previous edition in 2019.
