ICC keen to resolve clash between T20 league, CT

Dubai, Aug 6 (UNI) The International Cricket Council (ICC) is putting in its best efforts to resolve a potential clash between the first Twenty20 Champions League and the Champions Trophy.

The Champions League is due to start on September 29 at a venue which is yet to be confirmed but that is the reserve day for the Champions Trophy final in Pakistan.

The scheduling of the Champions League, however, breaches an agreement that an event cannot take place seven days after an ICC-sanctioned tournament.

The ICC is yet to give its go-ahead to the new Champions League which will feature eight teams, two each from India, South Africa and Australia, with Middlesex representing England and a final team yet to be chosen.

Meanwhile, the Champions Trophy, featuring the top eight one-day nations, begins in Pakistan on September 11, with Australia the defending champions.

The concern lies in the timing of the competitions, with the Twenty20 tournament starting just one day after the end of the Champions Trophy.

''All our directors are committed to the principle of the primacy of ICC events,'' ICC president David Morgan said.

''Every one of them wants the ICC Champions Trophy to be a successful, premium quality tournament.

''The directors will consider whether, and if so how, the Champions League will impact on that desired outcome,'' he added.
