ICC not to tolerate doping scandals to tarnish cricket's image

Dubai, Feb.11 (ANI): Shortly after the Indian Premier League (IPL) slapped a year long ban on Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif , the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday said that it would not tolerate doping scandals in the sport.

ICC's Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat said the apex international cricket body maintains a zero tolerance on doping.

The ICC also confirmed that it had received notification about Asif's ban from IPL, and it expects other members of the Council to respect it.

"ICC expects that all Member Boards will adopt the ban and as such the player will not be available for official cricket until the ban has been completed," a ICC statement said.

Asif was barred from playing cricket for a year after he tested positive in a drug scandal during the Indian Premier League's inaugural season last year."Together with our Members we are committed to the implementation of a new ICC Anti-Doping Code (2009) that will seek to ensure we have a great sport with a great spirit," the statement concluded.
