ICC ODI World Cup 2023: South Africa Best Playing 11 for Mega Event - Who makes the cut?

South Africa will be vying to turn the tables as they take part in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 in India. The South African cricket team will aim to end their quest for the trophy.

ICC tournaments and South Africa have never been a love affair. The coveted cricketing nation is inexplicably yet to win an ICC trophy across any format in over 25 years.

Their first and last ICC trophy came in the ICC Knock Out Trophy in 1998, later rebranded as ICC Champions Trophy. In the first ODI multi-nation tournament apart from the World Cup, South Africa defeated West Indies in the final in Bangladesh.

Ahead of the World Cup 2023, the Proteas are coming on the back of a rich vein of form, having good results against Australia and other prior bilateral affairs.

Quinton de Kock, who is set to retire from ODIs after the World Cup, is a certain starter. Along with him, the likes of Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen will have pivotal roles to play as well. With David Miller and Temba Bavuma added to them, the Proteas do have a strong batting lineup.

Marco Jansen can be their trump card in this tournament. The lanky pacer has found success and will be hoping to replicate his IPL exploits in national colours. And he has become a reliable dasher down the order, which is an added artillery for the South Africans.

Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj will be the two spinners who will be the key force for them, along with the pacers Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi in the starting lineup. Lizaad Williams, a 29-year-old pacer with just a solitary ODI experience, has been roped in as a replacement for injured Anrich Nortje.
