ICC strips Pak of 2011 World Cup hosting rights

By Super Admin

Dubai, Apr 18: Due to the recent incident in Lahore where the Sri Lankan team suffered a terror attack, the International Cricket Council (ICC) striped Pakistan of the rights to co-host the 2011 World Cup.

Pakistan along with India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was supposed to host the quadrennial cricketing event. However, due to the unrest in the country and the lack of security the ICC board was forced to withdraw Pakistan's hosting right.

"It is a regrettable decision (but) our number one priority is to create certainty and deliver a safe, secure and successful event," ICC President David Morgan said.

On March 3, there was terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in which six Sri Lankan players and an assisting coach were injured and several policemen were killed.

Before this the ICC had also shifted the Champions Trophy out of Pakistan due to security reasons.
