The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month awards for both men and women for the month of August in 2024. Players from Ireland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies are in contention.
Among the men's nominees are South African spinner Keshav Maharaj, West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales, and Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage. For the women's award, Sri Lankan batter Harshitha Samarawickrama, and Irish players Orla Prendergast and Gaby Lewis have been shortlisted.

Keshav Maharaj is eyeing his second Player of the Month award after winning it in April 2022. He was named Player of the Series in two ICC World Test Championship matches against the West Indies, taking 13 wickets.
In Port of Spain's drawn Test, he claimed four wickets in each innings, including three of the top four batters in the first innings and four of the top five in the second. He also took five wickets in Guyana's second Test, which South Africa won by 40 runs.
Jayden Seales from the West Indies is also on the shortlist. He finished with 12 wickets in a series against South Africa, including nine in Guyana. This performance helped him achieve a career-best 13th position in the ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings and become the highest-ranked bowler from the West Indies in this format.
Dunith Wellalage earned his spot on the men's shortlist for his ODI performances. The left-handed all-rounder was named Player of the Series during Sri Lanka's 2-0 series win over India. He scored 67 not out, 39, and two runs while also taking seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul for 27 runs in the third match.
Harshitha Samarawickrama carried her excellent form from the Asia Cup into Sri Lanka's tour of Ireland. She amassed 151 runs across two T20Is in Dublin at a strike rate of 169.66 and scored 172 runs across three ODIs in Belfast at a strike rate of 82.69. Her notable performances included an unbeaten 86 off 45 balls in the first T20I and a century (105) in the second ODI.
Orla Prendergast was Ireland's leading run-scorer as they triumphed over Sri Lanka 2-1 in an ODI series. She had an outstanding performance in the first ODI with an unbeaten 122 off 107 balls after taking three wickets for 25 runs and two catches, earning her Player of the Match honours. She also contributed scores of 29 and 38 runs in two T20Is.
Gaby Lewis scored an impressive 158 runs across two T20Is at a strike rate of 146.29, including a remarkable knock of 119 runs in one match—the highest individual score for Ireland in this format. Unfortunately, she sustained a quad injury after scoring nine runs in her first ODI appearance, ruling her out for the rest of that series.
