ICC Player of the Month: Sri Lanka duo to fight for September awards with Australia's Travis Head, no Indian player nominated

By MyKhel Staff

In a remarkable month filled with international cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the contenders for its September Player of the Month awards.

Among the men's nominations, Travis Head stands out as he strives for his second ICC Men's Player of the Month title. His all-round brilliance, particularly in batting and bowling against Scotland and England, has put him in a favourable position.

Alongside Head, Sri Lankan cricketers Prabath Jayasuriya and Kamindu Mendis have also been shortlisted. Jayasuriya dazzled with his spin bowling, and Mendis made significant contributions with his batting in the World Test Championship, facing teams such as England and New Zealand.

The trio of Head, Jayasuriya, and Mendis include former winners of the Player of the Month award, each aiming for a second accolade.

Women's POTM Nominations

Turning to the women's category, the shortlist features two prolific run-scorers from England and the UAE, as well as a young, talented Irish spinner.

England's Tammy Beaumont has been nominated again owing to her outstanding batting performance in Ireland, where she led her team's scoring efforts in the short format series.

Alongside Beaumont, Aimee Maguire from Ireland made a significant impact with her bowling, taking numerous wickets throughout September. Esha Oza from the UAE completes the women's shortlist, her batting and bowling performances integral to the UAE's triumph in the Tri-Nation Series held in Namibia.

Despite having a significant outing against Bangladesh in the first Test, none of the Indian players made the ICC list for the Player of the Month award. In August, Sri Lanka duo claimed a clean sweep on the award. Dunith Wellalage claimed the Men's award whereas Harshitha Madavi was bestowed with the women's award.
