ICC Rankings: India become No. 1 in T20Is after clean sweep over Australia

Sydney, Jan 31: India today became the number one side in the world in Twenty20 Internationals after making a 3-0 clean sweep over Australia in the third and final match here at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led India defeated Australia by 7 wickets today (January 31) in the third and final T20I to whitewash the hosts. With this, India catapulted from number 8 to top of the ICC T20I Rankings. Australia were pushed to number 8.

Indian on top of the world

Chasing 198 to win, India won on the final ball of the match with Suresh Raina hit a boundary off the last delivery when 2 runs were needed. India had won the previous two games in Adelaide and Melbourne.

Once again, India's top order clicked. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both registered half centuries. Veteran Yuvraj Singh, after struggling at the start, smashed a four and a six in the final over to turn things for India.

The visitors needed 17 off the final over bowled by Andrew Tye. Raina was unbeaten on 49 off 25. Earlier, Australian's stand-in captain Shane Watson had blasted a record 71-ball 124 not out but that went in vain.
