ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Team of the Tournament: Sanju Samson, Bumrah, Markram Lead Star-Studded XI

The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced the team of the tournament for the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026. The team was selected by a panel comprising West Indies great Ian Bishop, former England captain Eoin Morgan, South African commentator Natalie Germanos, ICC representative Gaurav Saxena, and senior Sri Lankan sports journalist Rex Clementine.

Sahibzada Farhan (7 matches, 383 runs, 76.60 average, 160.25 strike rate)

Even though Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals and looked out of shape throughout the tournament, Sahibzada Farhan had been brilliant with the bat for the men in green at the top of the order. His tally of 383 runs in seven matches was the highest a batter has scored in a single edition of the T20 World Cup, despite Pakistan exiting at the Super Eight stage.

The 29-year-old opener also made history by becoming the first batter to score two centuries in a single edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. One of his standout performances came against the Sri Lanka national cricket team in the final Super Eight match, where his brilliant hundred helped set up a narrow five-run victory.

Sanju Samson (5 matches, 321 runs, 80.25 average, 199.37 strike rate)

Sanju Samson played a pivotal role in India's dominant finish at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and was deservedly named the Player of the Tournament. Initially struggling to find a place in India's star-studded lineup, the wicketkeeper-batter made a remarkable impact when it mattered the most, delivering crucial performances during the knockout stages.

The right-handed batter began his run of form with a blistering unbeaten 97 against the West Indies cricket team in the final Super Eight match, which effectively served as a knockout encounter. He followed it up with an impressive 89 against the England cricket team in the semi-final and another commanding 89 in the final against the New Zealand national cricket team.

Ishan Kishan (9 matches, 317 runs, 35.22 average, 193.29 strike rate)

Ishan Kishan made a strong impact at the top of the order with his aggressive batting for the India national cricket team in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The left-hander scored three half-centuries in the tournament and also chipped in with quick knocks of 38 against the Zimbabwe national cricket team and 39 versus the England cricket team.

His standout performance came against the Pakistan national cricket team, where he smashed 77 off 40 balls, hitting 10 fours and three sixes after India lost an early wicket. Completing a remarkable comeback after two years on the sidelines, Kishan also contributed 54 runs and took two crucial catches in the final.

Aiden Markram (8 matches, 286 runs, 47.66 average, 165.31 strike rate)

Aiden Markram led South Africa with authority as the side began its ICC Men's T20 World Cup campaign with seven straight victories. Batting at the top of the order, Markram produced consistent performances and scored three half-centuries during the tournament.

He delivered two standout knocks in Ahmedabad, remaining unbeaten on 86 against New Zealand in a crucial group-stage clash and later scoring an unbeaten 82 against West Indies in the Super Eight stage.

Markram also chipped in with the ball when required. In the match against India, he provided an early breakthrough by dismissing Ishan Kishan in the opening over.

Although South Africa's campaign ended in the semi-finals, Markram stood out for his leadership and the confidence he showed in guiding a talented bowling attack throughout the tournament.

Hardik Pandya (9 matches, 217 runs, 160.74 strike rate, 9 wickets)

A crucial all-rounder for India, Pandya once again delivered impactful performances with both bat and ball at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He scored 217 runs and picked up nine wickets, proving his value in key moments.

Pandya struck two half-centuries, including a rapid 50 off 23 balls against Zimbabwe, helping India post 256/4 - the highest total of the 2026 tournament and one of the biggest in World Cup history. With the ball, his standout spell came against Pakistan, where he returned figures of 2/16 and removed opener Sahibzada Farhan early.

Will Jacks (8 matches, 226 runs, 176.56 strike rate, 9 wickets)

Jacks enjoyed a breakthrough tournament for England, establishing himself as a dynamic all-rounder. Batting in the middle order, he played several crucial finishing roles and scored 226 runs.

His best knock was an unbeaten 53 against Italy, while his quick contributions against India and a match-winning 32* against New Zealand highlighted his finishing ability. Jacks also impressed with the ball, including a three-wicket haul against Sri Lanka.

Jason Holder (7 matches, 10 wickets, 141 runs)

The experienced all-rounder played an important role for West Indies with both bat and ball. Holder scored valuable lower-order runs and claimed 10 wickets during the tournament.

His best bowling performance came against Nepal at Wankhede Stadium, where he picked up 4/27 to set up a comfortable victory. Holder also contributed a fighting 37* against India in the Super Eight stage.

Jasprit Bumrah (8 matches, 14 wickets, 12.42 average, 6.21 economy)

Bumrah was once again the spearhead of India's bowling attack and finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. His control and precision made him one of the most difficult bowlers to score against.

The fast bowler saved his best for the final against New Zealand, claiming 4/15 and earning the Player of the Match award. His disciplined spell in the semi-final against England also proved decisive in India's narrow win.

Lungi Ngidi (7 matches, 12 wickets, 15.58 average, 7.19 economy)

Ngidi was one of the standout pacers for South Africa, using clever variations and slower deliveries effectively on batting-friendly pitches.

He began the tournament with an impressive 4/31 against Canada and later added two more three-wicket hauls. Even in matches without wickets, such as against India, Ngidi maintained tight control and kept the scoring in check.

Adil Rashid (8 matches, 13 wickets, 19.23 average, 8.15 economy)

Rashid was the lone specialist spinner in the Team of the Tournament and played a key role in England's strong campaign.

His best figures were 3/36 against Scotland, but he was particularly influential in the Super Eight matches against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Rashid also chipped in with two wickets against India.

Blessing Muzarabani (6 matches, 13 wickets, 14.46 average, 7.88 economy)

Muzarabani was instrumental in Zimbabwe's impressive run to the Super Eight stage. The tall pacer consistently troubled batters with pace and bounce.

His standout performance came against Australia, where he took 4/17 to help secure a memorable win. Muzarabani also dominated the group stage, claiming nine wickets in three matches.

Shadley van Schalkwyk (4 matches, 13 wickets, 7.76 average, 6.80 economy)

Van Schalkwyk was the standout bowler of the group stage for United States. Despite the team missing out on the Super Eight, his performances were among the best in the tournament.

He began with a four-wicket haul against India and followed it up with another 4/25 against Pakistan, showcasing his ability to dismantle strong batting line-ups.
