In the latest ICC Test batting rankings, Indian batters held on to their positions despite the fiasco in the IND vs NZ first Test. There were several Indian batters in the top 20, with Yashasvi Jaiswal riding high at the No. 4 position.
However, the biggest winner in the rankings was wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who rose up three spots to sixth place. His rise is a result of his exemplary determination that has resulted in such a comeback from a horrific automobile accident in December 2022.

In fact, Pant was one of the best players for India in the first Test match against New Zealand, irrespective of the result. The 27-year-old scored 99 runs in the second innings, and his dismissal before a well-deserved century broke the hearts of cricketing fans around the world. Even in the first innings, where the team was bowled out for 46, Pant was the highest scorer with 20 runs.
After a stupendous 150-run knock against New Zealand, Sarfaraz Khan was the biggest gainer in the latest ICC Test batting rankings. The 27-year-old batter rose up 31 spots to tie with Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran in 53rd place.
However, not every player has had a reason to smile in the latest ICC Test batting rankings. Iconic players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both suffered a drop in their rankings. Kohli, who scored 0 and 70 in the two innings against the Kiwis, dropped down one spot to eighth.
Meanwhile, Test captain Rohit Sharma, who scored a half-century against New Zealand, dropped down two places to tie with Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne in the 15th place.
Another Indian batter in the top 20, Shubman Gill, also saw a major drop of four spots, tying with foreigner Pakistani captain Babar Azam for the 19th place.
