The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for the Men's Tests player of the year 2024 on Monday (December 30).

Amid that, four players have been nominated for the crown. England duo Harry Brook and Joe Root, Sri Lanka's Kaminu Mendis, India's Jasprit Bumrah are the final four contenders for the prestigious award.
Joe Root continued his stellar Test career in 2024, scoring 1742 runs in 17 matches-his second-best annual tally. With six centuries and five fifties, Root joined the elite group with 36 career Test tons, tied with Rahul Dravid. A career-best 262 in Multan helped England amass the fourth-highest Test total ever and secure an innings win over Pakistan.
India's maverick Jasprit Bumrah led the bowling charts in 2024 with 71 wickets from 13 Tests at an average of 14.92, his best-ever annual tally. His all-conditions mastery shone in both pace-friendly and challenging environments. A captaincy masterclass in Perth, where his eight wickets propelled India to a famous 295-run win over Australia. The magician with the ball will be a top contender to win the accolade.
Mendis emerged as a middle-order stalwart, scoring 1049 runs in nine Tests at an incredible average of 74.92. He matched Sir Don Bradman's record for the quickest to 1000 Test runs in 13 innings.
The breakthrough performer of 2024, Brook scored 1100 runs in 12 Tests at a strike rate of 85.00. His tally included four centuries, highlighted by a maiden triple century. A stunning 317 off 322 in Multan propelled England to their fourth-highest Test total and a commanding innings win over Pakistan. He also finished the year as ICC's No. 1 ranked Test batter, displacing Joe Root.
