ICC Test Rankings: Jasprit Bumrah Retains No.1 Spot as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill Make Gains
Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate world cricket's toughest format as the Indian pace spearhead retained his number one position in the latest ICC Test bowling rankings released on Wednesday (May 13).
Bumrah remains comfortably ahead of the competition with 879 rating points, underlining his extraordinary consistency across conditions and opposition in recent years. Even with India yet to begin their 2026 World Test Championship cycle, the fast bowler's performances from the previous season continue to keep him at the summit of Test cricket.

The latest rankings also highlighted the growing influence of India's next-generation batting stars, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill both featuring inside the top 10 Test batters globally.
Jaiswal currently occupies the eighth spot with 750 rating points after a remarkable rise over the last two years, while Gill climbed one place to ninth with 730 points following another run of consistent performances.
At the top of the batting rankings, Joe Root continues to lead the charts with 880 points. England's Harry Brook remains second, followed by Travis Head and Steve Smith.
For India, however, the bigger positive lies in the long-term picture.
With veterans gradually moving towards the final phases of their Test careers, Jaiswal and Gill have increasingly emerged as the future core of India's batting lineup. Their simultaneous presence inside the top 10 reflects both their consistency and their growing importance in India's red-ball transition.
India's bowling rankings also continue to showcase the depth of their attack.
Mohammed Siraj remains the next-highest ranked Indian bowler at 12th, while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav occupy the 14th and 15th spots respectively.
The rankings further underline how India currently possess one of the most balanced bowling units in Test cricket, with pace, spin and variety across conditions.
Outside India, Bangladesh enjoyed one of the biggest ranking boosts following their impressive 104-run win over Pakistan in Mirpur.
Najmul Hossain Shanto emerged as one of the major gainers after his match-winning performances earned him the Player of the Match award. The Bangladesh captain jumped 16 places to reach joint 23rd in the batting rankings - the highest position of his Test career so far.
The rise also reflects Bangladesh's improving competitiveness in the longer format, particularly in home conditions where they have increasingly troubled established Test sides.
Australia's pace attack, meanwhile, continues to remain a major force in the bowling rankings.
Mitchell Starc climbed to second place, while captain Pat Cummins moved up to fourth. Matt Henry also continued his steady rise, moving into third place after another impressive run of performances for New Zealand.
The latest ICC rankings once again highlight how Test cricket continues to evolve with a fascinating mix of established superstars and emerging next-generation names.
For India, though, the biggest takeaway remains familiar - Bumrah's dominance with the ball and the steady rise of Jaiswal and Gill as future leaders of the batting unit.
