ICC Test Rankings: Rohit Sharma Top-Ranked Indian Batter, Ashwin Stays No.1 Bowler; Kohli-Jaiswal Make Gains, Babar Azam Slips Six Places

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday (August 28) unveiled the latest ICC Rankings, where England's Harry Brook and Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan caused a significant shake-up within the top 10 of the ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings.

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam experienced a notable drop, while India skipper Rohit Sharma remains the highest-ranked Indian batter in the Test rankings. Premier India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, meanwhile, continues to be the numero uno in bowlers' rankings in the red-ball format.

West Indies' white-ball players made impressive gains in the latest T20I rankings following their series whitewash against South Africa at home.

Joe Root Remains No.1 Test Batter

England's star batter Joe Root continues to hold the No.1 spot in the Test batter rankings after England's success in the opening Test against Sri Lanka in Manchester. Meanwhile, Harry Brook made a significant leap after his scores of 56 and 32 at Old Trafford, moving up three places to fourth overall. The 25-year-old surpassed Pakistan's Babar Azam, Australia's Steve Smith, and India's Rohit Sharma, thanks to his recent strong performances.

Three Indians in the Latest ICC Test Rankings

Rohit Sharma remains India's top-ranked Test batter, positioned sixth with 751 rating points. He is followed by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who climbed one spot to seventh, and Virat Kohli, who moved up two places to eighth in the latest rankings.

Babar Azam Drops Six Places

Babar Azam slid six places, dropping from third to ninth after a rare failure in the first innings of Pakistan's Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, Mohammad Rizwan made a seven-spot jump to a career-high 10th place after scoring a century in the same match. Babar now sits just six rating points ahead of Rizwan in the updated Test batter rankings, with Pakistan vice-captain Saud Shakeel also rising to 13th after his own century against Bangladesh.

Mushfiqur Rahim Achieves Career-High Test Rating

Bangladesh's veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim reached a career-high rating, moving up seven places to 17th following his match-winning century in the first Test against Pakistan. Sri Lanka's Dinesh Chandimal (up four places to 23rd), Kamindu Mendis (up eight spots to 36th), and England's Jamie Smith (up 22 places to 42nd) also saw improvements in the Test batter rankings.

R Ashwin Remains No.1 Test Bowler

India's Ravichandran Ashwin continues to lead the Test bowler rankings, while Sri Lanka's Prabath Jayasuriya moved up one place to ninth after taking five wickets against England in Manchester.

England's Chris Woakes (up four places to 16th) and Sri Lanka's Asitha Fernando (up 10 places to 17th) also made gains. Additionally, Pakistan's Naseem Shah (up four spots to 33rd) and England's Gus Atkinson (up four places to 42nd) achieved new career-best ratings after recent strong performances.

Woakes also advanced one place to eighth on the Test all-rounder list, where India's Ravindra Jadeja remains the top-ranked player. At seventh spot, Jadeja is the second Indian bowler in the top 10 in the bowlers' rankings.

Latest ICC T20I Rankings

There's been significant movement in the latest T20I rankings, with several West Indies players making notable gains and breaking into the top 10 of their respective categories after the first two matches of their home series against South Africa.

Power-hitters Nicholas Pooran (up three places to ninth) and Shai Hope (up 32 spots to joint 40th) climbed the T20I batter rankings, while Akeal Hosein (up four places) and Gudakesh Motie (up 10 places) now hold second and third positions, trailing only England's Adil Rashid in the T20I bowler rankings.

South Africa's Reeza Hendricks also made strides, moving up two spots to 13th in the T20I batter rankings, while Romario Shepherd gained ground in the T20I bowler rankings (up 13 spots to joint 31st) and in the all-rounder rankings (up five places to joint 14th) after a series of strong performances against the Proteas.
