ICC Women's Championship 2022-25 remained open after New Zealand's opening match of the three-match ODI series against Australia on Thursday (December 19) in Wellington, was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The series is part of the ongoing ICC Women's Championship, and inclement weather at the Cello Basin Reserve in Wellington left both Australia women and New Zealand women frustrated as they seek a place at next year's ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held in India from September to October.

Australia have already qualified for the show-piece event in 2025 event, but will be keen to clinch top spot in the Women's Championship with two wins from the remaining fixtures in New Zealand.
Third-placed India, who have also qualified as hosts, trail the Aussies by 10 points, but still have six games to play and could overtake the reigning World Cup champions with wins in those matches against West Indies and Ireland, who are the bottom two sides.
England women remain in second and have also booked their berth in 2025 World Cup, while South Africa in fourth have also confirmed their spot. Sri Lanka currently remain in fifth, but have played all their matches in the current cycle. Pakistan too have played all their matches and remain in eighth.
Bangladesh women, who face West Indies in the final series of the cycle, also remain in the race. The White Ferns too have plenty to play for as they look to continue the momentum that saw them claim the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE earlier this year.
New Zealand are yet to cement their place at next year's 50-over World Cup, with the Kiwis currently sitting in sixth place on the Women's Championship standings with 21 points after no result was achieved on Thursday (December 19).
Only the top six teams on the standings qualify automatically for the 2025 World Cup, with the bottom four sides entering the Qualifier tournament. Here is a look at the updated standings after NZ-W vs AUS-W 1st ODI:
