ICC Women's ODI Team Of The Year: No Indian Finds A Place As Australia Dominate 2023 Side Led By Chamari Athapaththu

No Indian found a place as Australia dominated the ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year 2023, which was revealed by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday (January 23).

The ICC kicked off the 2023 awards announcement week by revealing the T20I Team of the Year in both women's and men's categories on Monday (January 22), and revealed the remaining teams of the year, including Women's ODI team of the Year 2023 on Tuesday (January 23).

Teams were identified from selections submitted by the specialist panel of media representatives that make up the ICC Voting Academy. The esteemed panel made their selections based on player performances during the calendar year 2023.

The ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year recognises the 11 outstanding players who have impressed one and all - be it with the bat, the ball or their all-round exploits during the year 2023.

The Australian dominance in Women's ODI cricket is reflected in the team with five players featuring in it including rookie Phoebe Litchfield, who made a huge impact in 13 matches, scoring 485 runs at an average of 53.88 and a strike rate of 81.92.

While she is a strong contender for the ICC Emerging Women's Player of the Year award, Litchfield, who made her ODI debut in 2023, makes the ODI Team of the Year as an opener alongside skipper Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka.

Left-handed opener Athapaththu, for long the batting mainstay for Sri Lanka, has been named captain of the side after scoring 415 runs in just eight matches at an average of 69.16 and a strike-rate of 125.37.

Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry and wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney also make the team after scoring over 400 runs each during the calendar year, while Ash Gardner and Annabel Sutherland make it on the strength of performances with both bat and ball.

England all-rounder Nat Sciver Brunt's batting average of 131 in six matches earns her the number six slot, while New Zealand are the only other side apart from Australia to have more than one player in the Women's ODI team.

All-rounder Amelia Kerr and fast bowler Lea Tahuhu have both made it to the ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year alongside all-rounder Nadine de Klerk of South Africa and Bangladesh's left-arm spinner Nahida Akter to complete the team. Here is a look at the full team:
