ICC Women's Rankings: Big blow for Harmanpreet Kaur, Laura Wolvaardt claims First Place

By MyKhel Staff

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt has reclaimed the No. 1 position in the ICC Women's ODI Player Rankings for batters, a spot she last held in September 2022. Wolvaardt's rise comes after an impressive performance in the ongoing ICC Women's Championship series against England, which is tied 1-1 with the decider scheduled in Bloemfontein.

In the series, Wolvaardt showcased her class, scoring 59* in the first ODI to lead South Africa to a six-wicket win. Despite a second ODI loss in Durban, her 35-run contribution was enough to see her overtake England's Nat Sciver-Brunt, who has now dropped to third place, just behind Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu in second.

Annerie Dercksen made a remarkable leap in the bowlers' rankings, climbing 99 places to joint 69th.

Australia's Ellyse Perry rose to fourth among batters with her century against India in Brisbane, marking her highest ranking in over three years. Teammates Phoebe Litchfield and Tahlia McGrath also advanced in the batting rankings, while Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland made significant progress among bowlers. In England's camp, Charlie Dean improved to ninth in the bowling rankings and entered the top 10 in all-rounders.

Indian Players' Performance in ICC ODI Rankings

Indian players experienced mixed fortunes in the updated rankings.

Batters: Smriti Mandhana dropped to fifth, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur slipped to 11th. Richa Ghosh, however, gained seven places to joint 44th with Australia's Annabel Sutherland.

Bowlers: Renuka Singh advanced five places to 28th, maintaining her trajectory as one of India's rising bowling stars. Deepti Sharma, despite slipping to third in the all-rounders' rankings, remains a key figure.

Ireland and Bangladesh Players' Gains

Ireland's Orla Prendergast rose to joint ninth in the T20I all-rounders list after a stellar series against Bangladesh. Teammates Arlene Kelly and Laura Delany also made notable advances. For Bangladesh, Sobhana Mostary and Fariha Islam Trisna climbed several places, highlighting their progress in international cricket.

This week's ICC rankings reflect the dynamic nature of women's cricket, with standout performances being rewarded and setting the stage for more competitive action.
