ICC Women's T20 World Cup Records: Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine Lead New Benchmark Era Ahead of 2026 Push

The ICC Women's T20 World Cup began in 2009. Since then, nine tournaments have featured 12 different national teams. Australia, England, New Zealand and West Indies are past champions. New Zealand's 2024 win added fresh records across key metrics.

Australia dominate titles with six Women's T20 World Cup wins. England, New Zealand and West Indies have each won once. Eight other teams still chase a first ICC Women's T20 crown.

ICC T20 World Cup Records 2024 Highlights

Across 17 years, players have set and broken records. Figures cover wickets, runs, ages and crowd numbers. Many marks came during the 2024 event won by New Zealand. India fans now look to 2026 for new landmarks.

Amelia Kerr

Amelia Kerr holds the record for most wickets in one edition. She took 15 wickets during New Zealand's title run in 2024. In the final, she scored 43 at number three. She then claimed three for 24 against South Africa. The haul passed the old mark of 13 wickets. That record was shared by Anya Shrubsole and Megan Schutt.

Sophie Devine

Sophie Devine became the oldest captain to win the trophy. She lifted the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2024. Devine was 35 years and 49 days old then. That match was her last as New Zealand skipper. She had already announced her decision to step down. Harmanpreet Kaur and Chamari Athapaththu could beat this mark.

Meg Lanning

Meg Lanning holds the tournament's top individual score. She struck 126 not out for Australia against Ireland in 2014. The group match was in Bangladesh during the 2014 event. Her innings took 65 balls with four sixes and 18 fours. That knock helped Australia towards a third straight title. Her career best in T20 internationals is 133 not out.

Ellyse Perry

Ellyse Perry has played the most T20 World Cup games. The Australia all-rounder has 47 appearances at the event. She leads by five games over New Zealand opener Suzie Bates. Perry has played in every tournament since 2009. She and Alyssa Healy have won six titles for Australia. Healy retired in 2024 after 162 matches for her country.

Megan Schutt

Megan Schutt leads the all time tournament wicket charts. She has 48 wickets from 29 matches for Australia. Her bowling average stands at 11.72 runs per wicket. She also holds a better economy than Shabnim Ismail. Anya Shrubsole follows both on the all time list.

Suzie Bates

Suzie Bates is the tournament's leading run scorer. She has 1216 runs for New Zealand from 42 matches. Her span runs from 2009 through to 2024. Second placed Stafanie Taylor trails by more than 200 runs. Bates scored 32 in the 2024 final against South Africa. That took her 2024 tournament tally to an even 150.

Deandra Dottin

Deandra Dottin has struck the most sixes in the event. She has 31 sixes across her Women's T20 World Cup career. Her best came in 2010 with 112 not out. That innings against South Africa featured nine hits over long off. She first excelled in javelin and shot put at Caribbean Games.

England hold the record team total in a World Cup match. They scored 213 against Pakistan in Cape Town in 2023. The group game ended in a 114 run win for England. Danni Wyatt added 59 as England lost only five wickets. Bangladesh have the lowest total, 46 against West Indies in 2018.

Laura Wolvaardt

Laura Wolvaardt has the highest batting average in tournament history. She averages 43.30 for South Africa in the event. Her 563 runs have come from 17 innings. She scored 33 in South Africa's 2024 final loss. Beth Mooney ranks second with an average of 41.77. Both players are expected to feature again in 2026.

Record crowds and future targets

The 2020 final at Melbourne Cricket Ground set new crowd levels. Australia beat India before 86,174 fans on International Women's Day. It remains the record attendance for any women's cricket match. It also tops both men's and women's T20 World Cup finals. The figure passed 60,000 at Kolkata's 1997 World Cup final.

Tournament organisers hope 2026 will draw even larger numbers. Ticket sales already beat previous Women's T20 World Cup editions. Officials aim to create the most attended women's cricket tournament yet. Higher interest could raise the sport's profile in India and beyond.
