Pakistan's Babar Azam is reportedly planning to step down as the captain of his national team as the 1992 World Cup winner struggled big time during the ICC World Cup 2023 being played in India.
After a good start to their campaign with two wins in two games, Pakistan lost four matches on the go, starting with a heavy defeat to India in Ahmedabad. The four-match losing run soon led to the murmur of the Pakistan Cricket Board planning to drop Babar Azam as the captain.

According to Pakistan channel Geo TV, Babar Azam is not happy with the way PCB behaved and mulling over the idea of stepping down as the captain. The report further said that Babar Azam has been advised by his close aides that he sould step down as the captain in all three formats. The 29-year-old batter is likely to make his decision official once he return to Pakistan after playing their last match.
On the eve of the game, Babar also had a conversation with Ramiz Raja, who later revealed on his official YouTube channel that the skipper is low on confidence while refusing to divulge further details of their private conversation.
The rumours of sacking Babar from PCB corridor were soon watered down by back-to-back wins powered by Fakhar Zaman, who was redrafted into the playing 11 in place of misfiring Imam-ul-Haq. Imam getting dropped from the playing 11 came right after his uncle and Pak great Inzamam-ul-Haq stepped down as the chief selector.
The two-match winning run, however, proved not enough as New Zealand's one-sided win over Sri Lanka in their last match virtually knocked out Pakistan of the semifinal run as the equations were far too steep for the T20 World Cup finalists to achieve.
Babar Azam already said during the pre-match press conference of England vs Pakistan match in Kolkata that he is not thinking of anything beyond the game in hand while decisions on his captaincy will only be taken once the team is back home.
